Activities / Resume

I defended my PhD thesis in 2017 at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, Spain), after completing an MSc in Prehistory at the same university in 2012. My PhD research focused on vegetation history, climate change and human impact during the Neolithic in NE Iberia. I contributed significantly to understanding the socio-ecological consequences of Neolithisation and highlighted the potential of archaeopalynology for the study of lakeside settlements. I received specialized training in archaeobotany and palaeoecology, particularly in palynology and palaeofire research. Since 2017, I have co-directed excavations at the La Draga site in Banyoles (Spain), highlighting my active role in Neolithic archaeology research.

Then, I joined the Institut Català de Paleoecologia Humana i Evolució Social (IPHES-CERCA) (Tarragona, Spain) through three competitive post-doctoral fellowships. My research there focused on human-environment interactions during the Holocene in the Mediterranean, involving palynological analyses of archaeological sites from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age and sedimentary deposits like lakes and wetlands. I have a particular interest in insular contexts, with published studies on Balearics, Corsica and Crete.

My research focuses on land-use strategies, landscape transformation and socio-environmental dynamics during Late Prehistory, particularly in the Neolithic, while adopting a broader long-term perspective spanning from the Mesolithic to the Bronze Age.

My project, NEOLANDSCAPE: Reconstructing Neolithic landscapes in northeastern Iberia: an integrated archaeobotanical and palaeoecological approach, aims to reconstruct Neolithic landscapes and land-use dynamics by integrating palaeoecological data (pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs and sedimentary ancient DNA) with archaeological evidence and quantitative land-cover reconstruction models. It addresses how early farming societies transformed Mediterranean ecosystems, offering new insights into land use, vegetation change and resource management.
