DOCUMENTATION CENTRE
Location: 2nd floor south of the Bibliothèque Universitaire Centrale (BUC) GEODE is available on Mondays from 9am to 12pm to answer any questions.
GEODE's research library is an old one, derived from the existing library of CIMA (Centre Interdisciplinaire de Recherche en Milieux Naturels), a laboratory then associated with the CNRS (URA 366), set up in 1972 by Georges Bertrand.
This vast collection already included a large number of books, research papers and journals on the themes of man/nature/society. It has been expanded thematically and geographically over the years through a number of acquisitions. This has been achieved through successive research programmes in Latin America, Black Africa and, more recently, Eastern Europe.
The collection held by the BUC consists solely of books and a few issues of journals.
Most of the old maps produced in the laboratory as a result of the team's research work (which today, sometimes 30 or 40 years after they were produced, represent a genuine source of environmental archives) and the geographical maps of various countries that the laboratory possessed have been transferred to the map library of the “Olympe De Gouges” Geography Department of the University of Toulouse 2.
Only geological, pedological and sedimentological maps are accessible and can be borrowed from the laboratory. Aerial photographs (particularly of France, with the Pyrenees and the Alps) and SPOT images are also available.
Loan of documents from the Central University Library (BUC)
GEODE books are listed in the Archipel (library catalogue for the Toulouse network) and Sudoc (national catalogue) catalogues.
The laboratory's books can be borrowed directly from the BUC loan bank (2nd floor north) or from the self-service terminals.
Books are loaned for 3 weeks, renewable once.
