Research topics
My work focuses primarily on socio-natural relationships, examining issues related to the management of “natural resources” and “natural hazards” in relation to public policy and the production of scientific knowledge. My research focuses specifically on relationships with hydrosystems (rivers, streams, ponds, wetlands, and groundwater) in Europe (France and Spain) and Latin America (Venezuela, Chile, and Mexico).
My approach is relational. Within this framework, I view relationships as social constructs and consider them to be eminently “political” (M. Foucault). This involves, among other things, understanding the historical processes through which “natural” components are defined, processes that rely on the political articulation between the domains of knowledge and practice at various spatial levels (from the local to the global). This approach is rooted in the spirit of critical geography: a geography of power (Raffestin, 1980) closely aligned with political ecology.
