Burens et S. Ailincai).
The objective of this PHC is to establish an observatory on socio-environmental relations in the Danube Delta (Romania). The aim is to compile all the data necessary to understand, from a long-term historical perspective, human-induced changes in the Danube Delta.
- Administrator and science blogger :
Blog "Archéo-Danube" on the institutional platform Hypothèses.org :
https://archeologie-danube.hypotheses.orgThis blog is designed as a field journal linked to the Franco-Romanian research team formed around the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs’ “Danube Delta” archaeological mission. Through this format, the team aims to make factual data—as well as more in-depth information—available to the scientific community as it becomes available. Another goal is to provide the authorities managing the Danube Delta’s natural environment with insights for consideration. The aim is to establish a line of communication with the communities living along the Danube Delta to encourage the integration of historical and environmental perspectives into the development of these territories.

3D PLATFORM MANAGER « NUMERISATION DES ENVIRONNEMENTS ET OBJETS COMPLEXES »
The platform is dedicated to research and methodological developments in the field of 3D digitization of complex environments. It is supported by the DIPEE Toulouse facility (INEE CNRS). The objective of the platform is to develop mapping tools and to measure, at high resolution and in 3D, scientific objects related to present and past environments. The fields of application are varied: environment, landscape, archaeology, geo‑archaeology, subterranean environments, flora, hydrology, etc. It is more specifically devoted to the study of ecofacts and artefacts (mountain and subterranean environments) and to the characterization of research objects specific to Prehistory (field archaeology, etc.). The platform has been solicited to work within the framework of the SEEG « Grotte des Fraux », from the P2AS project – OHM Haut‑Vicdessos – Labex DRIIHM (aimed at quantifying the effects of erosion in the Bassiès mountains), from the Danube Delta archaeological mission in Romania (3D digitization of Chalcolithic figurines), from the archaeological heritage of Haute‑Corse (digitization of the Scritta Cave and the three menhir statues of Pieve), and from the digitization of a pre‑Hispanic copper‑metallurgy production site in the Atacama Desert (LIA "Les systèmes miniers dans le désert d'Atacama » in Chili), from the ANR Neoarabia project in the Sultanate of Oman, and also in the Saingt quarry in Caen (digitization of the areas of the quarry occupied in June 1944 by several hundred refugees at the time of the landings).
PARTICIPATION IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS :
-
Scientific secretary of the LIA GOCHE GéOarchéologie des CHangements Environnementaux dans la zone du bas Danube et de son delta (management : L. Carozza - M. Danu) 2019-2022The purpose of the LIA is to reconstruct, over the long historical duration, the evolutionary trajectories of one of the largest hydrological systems: the Lower Danube and its delta, highlighting the role of hydro‑climatic forcings as a controlling factor, as well as the impact of ancient or recent human interventions.
- Archaeological mission« Néolithique du Delta du Danube » of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, 2018–2021. By presenting as its research theme the relationships between Neolithic and Protohistoric societies and their environment, the objective of this mission is to study the nature of settlement and the modalities of evolution of the human communities of the Dobroudja region (Romania)..
- Global Ecology Study Site « delta du Danube » - retro‑observatory of society– environment relations in the Danube Delta (coordinator L. Carozza) The Global Ecology Study Site in the Danube Delta, created by the CNRS Institute of Ecology and Environment, is a retro‑observatory whose purpose is to study, over the long historical duration, the relationships that human societies maintain with their environment. The aim of this project is to measure the extent to which inherited factors contribute to the construction of the present‑day ecosystems and landscapes of the Danube Delta. This research project seeks, through systemic approaches, to link retrospective and actualistic analyses. It is part of an interdisciplinary approach at the interface between the social sciences and environmental sciences.
- Program “The Saingt Quarry in Fleury‑sur‑Orne (Calvados)” – Study of a quarry used as a refuge for civilians during the Battle of Caen (June 1944), L. Dujardin, C. Marcigny, coordinators.
- Program CHRISTO (coordinators PH. Valette) Hydro‑sedimentary Crises and Risk Management in a Small Catchment Connected to the Danube: Flash Floods and Torrential Regimes in the Cetatuia Valley (Dobroudja, Romania) over the Last Five Centuries (APE GEODE).
- Project DYNHAPYR : DYNamiques Historiques et Actuelles du risque torrentiel dans les PYRénées (JM Antoine)

EXHIBITIONS :
- Member of the Scientific Committee of the French‑Romanian exhibition “Between Land and Water: Social and Environmental Crises in the Danube Delta at the End of the Neolithic”, Museum of the City of Prehistory (Orgnac‑l’Aven), 1 May 2018–November 2019. After ten years of research and numerous presentations and publications aimed at the scientific community, the French‑Romanian mission “Archaeology of the Danube Delta” is showcasing its results through an international public exhibition. This exhibition aims to present the daily life of human communities at the end of the Neolithic in Dobroudja (Romania). It seeks to raise public awareness of past climatic changes, of the ways in which ancient societies did or did not adapt to new environmental conditions, and of their capacity to face these crises or even to transform themselves.
